Tough Interview Question #40: What Motivates You To Go The Extra Mile (on a Project or A Job)

In my thinking, there is a suggestion in this question . . . mjost people do average work and need motivation or crisis to extend themselves. I believe the way to answer this is to acknowledge the suggestion and flip it.

You need to look the interview square in the eye and speak with sincerity.

"It's unfortunate that so many people are unwilling to go the extra mile all the time as part of their job. That they do see the the value of caring enough about their job or their employer to be busting a gut to do excellent work, to see problems, offer solutions or ideas to management . . .Its unfortunate that you have to ask questions like this because so many people most face crisis or be motivated to go the extra mile."

"That problem is not a part of my make up."

And then you sit quietly and wait for the next question.
